What to do before we get there
Get everyone away from the affected rooms and stay off the roof. More people are hurt after storms falling off wet roofs than during the storm itself.
- Kill power to any room with water near fixtures or wiring
- Move furniture out and put buckets under active drips
- If a ceiling is bulging with trapped water, punch one small hole at the low point to drain it in a controlled spot — that is far cheaper than letting the whole ceiling come down
- Photograph everything before you clean up, from inside and from ground level outside

- Document everything for your insurance claim
- Schedule permanent repair or replacement
First priority is always stopping water. We tarp and dry-in the affected area so the damage stops growing while the permanent repair gets scheduled, materials get ordered, or your claim gets worked. Then we do a full inspection, because the leak you called about is often not the only opening a storm left. You get documented drone and ground photos of everything we find, dated, in a report you can hand straight to an adjuster.
After a named storm
Tampa Bay hurricane season runs June through November, and the week after a storm is when out-of-state storm chasers show up. Before you sign anything with anyone, check that they hold a Florida license — ours is CCC1337558 — and that they will still be here in year three when a workmanship claim comes up. Free inspections and written estimates should never cost you a deposit.
